FREQUENTY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I ORDER?

First check our prices page to estimate how much your unit will cost. Then e-mail us (feel free to ask us any questions at the same time!) and we will send you a quotation we start work once you approve it. Billing is completed after you have received and approved your items. Delivery time is typically 2-3 weeks.

HELP, I DAMAGED MY BLACKOUT PANEL!

Will you repair it?
Yes. We do repairs. But realistically, you should never damage your curtains. You will have to pay the shipping and handling/repair costs. We also supply a free fabric patch with every order in case you want to perform any tests or install your own patch!

WHICH COUNTRIES DO YOU SHIP TO?

We ship internationally. Please note that our NFPA fire certification meets the standards of Canada, the USA, and New York City (yes, NYC is unique). If you want certification in any other country, you will have to certify it yourself. We can supply a test patch.

DO I HAVE TO ASSEMBLE MY OWN FRAME?

If you bought a framed system: yes. Frames are easily assembled. The only tool you need is a rubber mallet. We recommend placing some sheeting on the floor first, to avoid scratching the frame. Then you just have to bang all the steel pieces into the corner assemblies. It's easy, just be careful not to hit your thumb.

DO YOU ACCEPT RETURNS?

Since all our blackout and barrier units are customized to your desired size, we cannot accept returns except due to any defects in workmanship. If in the highly unlikely event that you spot a defect, please alert us within 2 weeks of receiving the unit and we will exchange it free of charge. All units are carefully inspected prior to shipping.

WHERE ARE YOUR UNITS MANUFACTURED?

HOW MUCH LASER CAN MY TOUREV UNIT BLOCK?

Please see our TOUREV brochure. There are an infinite number of possible beam characteristics (beam size, wavelength, pulse length, etc). We do in-house tests with a variety of laser setups. Tourev is rated to 50W per square cm under the conditions tested. NEVER expose your Tourev barriers to a higher irradiance than this, and never intentionally use your Tourev3 as a beam block. Remember, laser curtains are a safety feature of last resort.

All of our products are hand crafted and inspected in Edmonton, Alberta from materials originally tested in our University lab and then bulk fabricated for us by our international partner.

HOW CAN I AFFIX MY FRAME TO MY OPTICAL TABLE?

HOW DO I INSTALL MY CURTAIN RAILS?

We use track and trolley hardware that can be purchased directly from this supplier. Buying direct is most cost effective, rather than having us purchase it and resell it to you. You will have to do your own install, which should best be completed by your building maintenance personnel or a by a certified contractor.

Simple! Use Thorlabs' (or any other manufacturer's)  clamping systems. In our lab we don't need the clamps because the frame is not so easy to slide. If you do want clamps, we recommend just pushing the flat end of a CL5 type clamp against the frame and locking it to the table with a typical 1/4" 20 screw (or whatever screw your table uses).
